Is it just me or does everyone think you should chase your dream?

This morning we are broadcasting live from Brooke Morgan Hair in Aerodrome Road Maroochydore.

Hairdresser Brooke Seignior is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most haircuts in 24 hours. She needs to snip 527 heads, which is about 22 an hour.

To know Brooke is to love her. She has the loudest laugh I know, chews nicotine gum non-stop and her generosity knows no bounds. She has been dreaming of a world record since her dad’s mate road a penny-farthing round Melbourne’s Knox City shopping centre for 24 hours in the 1980’s.

We are in the last three days of GM5FK.

After Brooke rings the bell on her Guinness World Record attempt we’ll head to Kawana Shopping World for the Monster Auction to sell the miscellaneous items that have been generously donated over the month of June.

We’ll be there from 9am with a full list of what’s on offer. The first item will go under the hammer at 11am.

And on Sunday it’s Jessie’s Party in honour of 6-year-old Jessie Schroder who died in 2009. Jessie’s dying wish was for a party in the park where sick kids and well kids could play together. Sunday will be the 12th year in a row the community has granted Jessie’s wish.

The money for this year’s GM5 is going back into the ward. Whatever the nurses tell us they need we will try to buy, we’ll also pay for Clown Doctors, music and yoga therapy.

It’s hard to quantify the value of that stuff, until you talk to a parent.

Having a sick child is bad enough without being the one who holds them down while bloods are taken or tubes inserted. Alternate therapies mean less drugs, less tears, less nightmares and more sleep for everyone. A kinder way to do scary, painful, life-saving things to kids. Something no one can put a price on.

So. Where are we at? It’s been a slow-ish year but we’re pushing on. GM5FK is not a sales target and we will always be happy with what we are given.

Having said that, just like last year, we have a secret very exciting reward for 10 people with $10K to give. It’s an enormous donation but we know there are philanthropists in the community, we just need to find them.

Not everyone can give $10k but if you know someone who can, would you give them a nudge for me?
